On "Strike"

As most of you know, this last month we were paid late and the Korean staff was promised they would receive their paychecks on July 31 (a total of 21 days late). Well, that day was yesterday and guess what? That's right- they were NOT paid. This is not good. Apparently, our school has applied for a bank loan in Busan for 20 Billion Won ( = 20 million US) and are anxiously awaiting for the money. Supposedly they have been granted the loan but are waiting to take possession of it. If they actually get the loan it seems that everything should be fine until we leave Korea. However, if the loan money does not come through we fear our school will go bankrupt. The owners seem confident that the loan will come through but the Korean staff is tired of being promised a pay date and then having it delayed- for some this is the 3rd time this has happened and a couple have already quit. As of today, we have called all of our students and have given them a "vacation" claiming the school AC is broken and needs to be worked on. So as not to break our contract, we will show up every day but we will not teach b/c there will be no students. We are both extremely stressed but are coming to terms with the reality we may face. I do not know when we will know more but we'll keep in touch.
